By way of giving back something to the local community, St.Finbarr’s Athletic Club will be donating part of the 2016 entry fee to local charity Cork Penny Dinners.

Cork Penny Dinners

Cork Penny Dinners…Established during famine times as a soup kitchen, Cork Penny Dinners serve over 1000 meals per week.

Our aim is a simple one –  to give everyone who calls to our centre a hot nourishing midday meal. In addition, our clients get sandwiches and fruit to take away as an evening meal. There’s an open door and a warm welcome. We never judge, we serve.

Sometimes a cup of tea, a handshake and a chat goes a long way towards beating the loneliness that’s a big issue for many who come our way. Our aim is to provide a warm, dry place to sit and eat, with a welcoming atmosphere where no questions are asked, no judgements made. Regardless of ability to pay, all are welcomed with courtesy.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life; nurses, truck drivers, scientists, general operatives, musicians, teachers, students, solicitors, unemployed people, retired people, clergy and so on. The volunteers are from many nationalities and have many different religions or none; but what we all have is empathy for our fellow human beings, a willingness to offer a hand in support .
